Marhaba Friends,

Our next activity will be attending the "Mutanabbi Street benefit concert and reading" organized at Jaffe Center for Book Arts at FAU in Boca Raton on Thursday, July 17, 2008.

The event is a mixture of traditional Arabic music and poetry reading. There will be a music and dance performance group that focuses on folkloric projects and plays traditional Middle Eastern instruments. John Cutrone has already sent us an email about the event (see John's email below).

Tickets are for a minimum donation of $20 each. The proceeds benefit Doctors without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) and checks are made payable directly to them. Don't forget that France's current foreign minister, Bernarcd Kouchner, a co-founder of Doctors without Borders, is a great friend of Lebanon and the Arabs. He has worked as a humanitarian volunteer in Lebanon during the civil war at a time few foreigners dared to live there. Today, the organization is providing humanitarian and health-related assistance in many war-torn regions of the world.

I have two extra tickets and will be given for free for two members of this meetup who would like to attend but their finances are now limited. Just send me an email.

I hope a large group from our meetup will show up in support of this event. We'll coordinate on sharing rides to FAU and maybe meeting briefly before the event. Thanks for John for organizing this event.
